But another medal: Straßer wins World Cup bronze in the slalom

The German ski racers have to wait at the World Cup until the last competition. Then there is something to celebrate. Slalom -ace Straßer Rast to Bronze – also because the top favorite fails.

Linus Straßer won a medal for the German team at the Ski World Cup. In the final slalom, the Munich man drove to bronze and cheered his first single podium at a major event. The 32-year-old was only beaten on the silver rank in Saalbach-Hintlemm by the new world champion Loic Meillard from Switzerland and the Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath.

The German Ski Association (DSV) was spared the disgrace, for the first time since 2007 without a precious metal from alpine world championships. This was also due to the fact that the Frenchman Clement Noel, which was leading in the slalom after the first run, threaded out and left in the final.

In the two weeks earlier, the athletes of the DSV had left empty during medal allocation. Only outsider Emma Aicher with two sixth places in departure and Super-G surprised positively. On Saturday, Lena Dürr was only eighth as a fellow favorite in slalom. After all, Straßer, whose wife Maria and daughter Marta were waiting for him at the finish line, still caused some damage limitation in Austria on the final day.
