Carinthia is considering its application for the 2034 Winter Olympics

A new edition of “Senza Confini”, when Carinthia applied with Friuli and Slovenia for the 2006 Winter Olympics at the end of the 1990s, is conceivable. However, according to Kaiser, one must return to the basic idea of the Olympic Games.

“When the International Olympic Committee (IOC) goes back to sustainability, to Coubertin’s original idea (note: Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the IOC), that games are made that connect people, that nature is left undamaged even with regard to grandchildren’s responsibility that you only adapt existing sports facilities” – then he could imagine a joint application, said Kaiser, who at the same time criticized the “gigantomania” and the artificial venue at the Winter Games in Beijing, which opened on Friday.

Since the next Winter Games will take place in Europe (Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo) and non-European countries will then be selected again according to rotation, 2034 would be the earliest possible application date. Therefore, others would have to decide, according to Kaiser. When it comes to sustainable games, however, the course has already been set.

As possible venues, Kaiser named the Alpenarena Villach, which is ideal for the Nordic competitions together with Planica in Slovenia, or Bad Kleinkirchheim and Tarvisio, where the Alpine competitions could take place. Furthermore, the ice sports centers in Klagenfurt and Villach, which are currently being expanded. At Weissensee there are FIS-homologated technical routes, the ÖSV trains there. There is a World Cup suitable snowboard route on the Simonhöhe. And biathlon would also be possible in the Villach Alpen Arena with the installation of a system.
