Dramatic incident
After collapse: handball referee on the way of improvement
In the Champions League duel between Veszprem and Lisbon, the referee suddenly overturns in the field. There is now a slight all -clear.
A dramatic incident in the handball champions League has apparently remained without serious consequences. In the group duel between KC Veszprem and Sporting Lisbon, the Danish referee Jesper Madsen collapsed on Thursday evening shortly before the half -time break and then had to be taken to the hospital.
Madsen suddenly tipped away in an attack by the guests and opened on the floor. The World Cup referee was medical supplied on the spot and then brought out of the hall on a stretcher. According to the European Handball Federation (EHF), the Dane is “fortunately in stable condition and is expected to be completely recovered”.
Madsen’s referee colleague Mads Hansen, who had finished the game alone, told the Danish broadcaster TV2Sport of a phone call with Madsen. Accordingly, “many different examinations” were carried out, in which there was nothing, “which indicated serious problems”.
Veszprems coach Xavier Pascual said after the 33:32 win of the Hungarian record champion: “We were shocked by what happened.” At the same time, he distributed great praise to Hansen: “My greatest respect for the other referee is that he ended this game alone. As a coach, I often fight with them, but now I have to thank him.”
