The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in China’s capital, Beijing. Can Germany build on the good results from 2018?
For the German delegation, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang were among the most successful of the past 20 years. Germany won 31 medals – 14 gold, ten silver and seven bronze. In the end, that meant second place in the overall standings behind Norway. Although the Germans bagged five more medals in Salt Lake City in 2002 than in 2018, the winter athletes set a new record for Germany with 14 gold medals.
Germany leads in the all-time medal table
A look at the all-time medal table of the Olympic Winter Games shows that Germany is the most successful nation so far. A total of 408 medals have been won by German athletes since 1924. It is up to the Germans to extend this lead further at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Beijing.
