World champion at EM: Basketball players breathe up
Four days ago, Germany had to tremble a ticket for the Seme basketball. These doubts are now gone. The last qualifying window encourages summer.
The EM can come for the world champion. Germany’s basketball players ended a partially bumpy qualification with two wins and still solved the ticket as a group winner. At the end of the preliminary round, the team of national coach Alex Mumbru defeated outsiders Bulgaria with 94:85 (62:35) and thus linked the strong 95:76 in Montenegro on Thursday. The basketball players celebrated the sounds of “Sweet Caroline” after the end with the fans.
Turn to Theis change
David Krämer (14 points) was the best thrower of the strongly positioned team in the success in Bamberg. The center Daniel Theis, who only joined the team on Friday, brought it to twelve points in front of 5,600 spectators, including sprinter Gina Lückenkemper. Theis enriched the team primarily on the defensive and under the baskets. When he was substituted for the first time, Germany was 10:15 behind – then the game tipped completely.

From August 27 to September 14th, the Spaniard Mumbru will accompany his first big tournament as head coach. The European Championship takes place in Riga (Latvia), Tampere (Finland), Katowitz (Poland) and Limassol (Cyprus). In which country the national team contests its preliminary round group will only result in the draw on March 27. The final round, which for the world champion cannot even be the minimum goal, rises in Riga.
In the last of the three qualification windows, Germany showed its strength-even without the NBA stars who were not there in North America because of the current season. In particular, three -way specialist fruit, playmaker Hollatz and worker Thiemann performed strong performance in the two clear victories. Gordon-Herbert successor Mumbru should have a hard time reducing its contingent to twelve professionals in summer.
Because world champion captain Dennis Schröder and NBA-Jungstar Franz Wagner are set just as much as some other world champions around Bavaria’s fruit. The quality in German basketball is enormous. The superstars from the NBA are likely to be there in Slovenia Luka Doncic, Serbia’s Nikola Jokic and Greece’s Giannis Antetocounmpo. But hardly a team has to offer the team unity of the Germans.
“In terms of quality, one of the strongest teams we have ever had on the pitch,” said Vice President Armin Andres in Bamberg. A third international medal after 2022 and 2023 seems tangible with this generation.
