What happened during the semi-final match with Russia at the European Futsal Championship, when Ukrainian fans chanted nationalist slogans, can be regarded as a “manifestation of the culture of individuals”, which should be punished by sanctions against the Ukrainian team itself. The corresponding statement was made on Friday, February 4, by State Duma deputy Sergei Chepikov.
“The manifestation of the culture of individuals is unpleasant, of course. Some insults in sports arenas. I think that FIFA (International Football Federation – Ed.) should respond to any insults, especially such frank ones. This must be stopped. There should also be sanctions for the team they support,” he told REN TV.
Earlier on Friday in Amsterdam there was a meeting between the teams of Ukraine and Russia in the semi-finals of the European Futsal Championship, Russian athletes beat their opponents with a score of 3:2. The Russian team reached the Euro final for the seventh time.
During the match, Ukrainian fans shouted Russophobic phrases, such as “who does not jump, that Muscovite.” At the same time, netizens drew attention to a fragment of the broadcast, in which the coach gives Ukrainians installations in Russian.
The European Futsal Championship takes place in the Netherlands from January 19 to February 6. In the main match of the tournament, the Russians will play with the winner of the meeting Portugal-Spain.
