Norway too strong: Kombi-Mixed fulfills World Cup obligation with silver
In the same line-up as two years ago, the German combination-mixed fetches the same medal color. The national coach sees the World Cup silver as a success – the quartet has no chance against the winner.
Vinzenz Geiger drove over the finish line in a relaxed manner, his silver team received him happily with skis that had shaken upwards. The German mixed in the Nordic combination confidently brought the firmly planned World Cup medal and only had to give up the dominant Norwegians. Geiger, Nathalie Armbruster, Jenny Nowak and Julian Schmid were 1: 16.8 minutes behind the host’s gold quartet.
“There is always excitement, a fall happened quickly. We are very, very happy with this debut and with this silver medal. We would have wanted to fight a little more for gold. Norway had nothing burned,” said national coach Eric Frenzel on ZDF. In addition to the team competition of the combiners, a medal in a combination-mixed was considered the safe German precious metal in Trondheim. Bronze went to Austria.
The race was a copy of the World Cup in Planica in Slovenian two years ago. Norway won superior with the same quartet around Jarl Magnus Riiber in front of Germany with the same line -up as 2023. Really advertising for the sport, which is still not Olympic for women and is worried about their Olympic future, the mixed with a normal hill jump as well as 2×2.5 and 2×5 kilometers.
Nowak: “All made a super job”
“We are very happy, huge, huge about this silver medal. We deserved this medal,” said Armbruster, who grinned happily in the individual one day after the sobering sixth place. Teammate Nowak said: “We all did a superjob.”
For the riiber affected by a chronic intestinal disease, it was an ideal start to its last World Cup. At the finish line, his team bowed in front of the year-long dominator, which was able to drive to the finish with the Norway flag. Riiber ends his career at the end of the season. The biggest tension moment was still the duel around bronze between Austria and Japan.
Schmid, Nowak, crossbow and violinist had laid the basis for their success on the hill. In third place and 28 seconds behind the leading Norwegians Schmid started the cross -country skiing race.
In addition to Riiber, Gyda Westvold Hansen, Ida Marie Hagen and Jens Luraas often were part of the gold quartet. Japan was in second place after jumping, but was then overtaken by Schmid. “I am very satisfied with the day,” said Geiger, for whom the five kilometers to the finish was rather relaxed in view of the starting point.
On Thursday, Novak had just missed a medal as a fifth and crossbowers. On Saturday (12 p.m. and 4 p.m./ZDF and Eurosport), the compact format is on the program for the men. Riiber is considered a top favorite, but Geiger and Schmid are likely to be among the strongest challenges.
