The Russian Football Union (RFU) appealed to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) because of the behavior of Ukrainian fans during the semi-final match of the European Futsal Championship between Russia and Ukraine. On February 5, Sport-Express writes about this.
“The Russian Football Union has sent an appeal to UEFA demanding that a disciplinary investigation be opened into the discriminatory behavior of fans of the Ukrainian national team during the semi-finals of the European Futsal Championship,” the press service of the RFU said.
It is noted that the anti-Russian chants of Ukrainian fans were political in nature, contributed to inciting hatred on a national basis, and also contained calls for murder.
According to the rules of the tournament, national associations are responsible for the behavior of their players, officials, members, fans and any persons, in this regard, an appeal was sent to consider and make a decision on the results of the incident at the match, the Russian Football Union concluded.
Earlier, on Friday, February 4, at the meeting between the teams of Ukraine and Russia in the semi-finals of the European Futsal Championship, Russian athletes beat their opponents with a score of 3:2 and reached the final of the tournament.
During the match, Ukrainian fans shouted Russophobic phrases, such as “who does not jump, that Muscovite.” At the same time, netizens drew attention to a fragment of the broadcast, in which the coach gives Ukrainians installations in Russian.
According to State Duma deputy Sergei Chepikov, what happened during the semi-final match with Russia at the European Futsal Championship can be regarded as “a manifestation of the culture of individuals”, this should be punished by sanctions against the Ukrainian team directly.
