“A home game would be nice, hopefully in front of a full house again,” said Ried’s lead scorer Julian Wießmeier after the semi-finals in the ÖFB Cup against Austria Klagenfurt (2-0) from the greatest wish of SV Guntamatic Ried.
The 29-year-old German, who put the Innviertler on the road to victory with his penalty goal on Friday, was heard in yesterday’s draw: double-doubles Olympic champion Wolfgang Linger gave the Innviertler a home game with league rival Hartberg (2-1 against Rapid). – a feasible lot.
After nine years, the Vikings are finally back in the semi-finals of the cup – and after yesterday’s draw at the latest they are dreaming of the big sensation. “If we want to win the title, we have to beat everyone anyway,” said youngster Felix Seiwald.
In the first 90 minutes of the competitive game under the 45-year-old, it was clear that the arrow at SV Ried was still pointing up after the first game under new coach Robert Ibertsberger. “You could see in many phases of the game what kind of game I want to see. But now my players have to continue because they put themselves under a bit of pressure with their performance against Klagenfurt,” says Ibertsberger, who was also able to shed some mental ballast with the opening win: “The good start also means a huge relief for me, because my first games with the previous clubs were often not so successful.”
He was only able to celebrate a victory on his debut as a St. Pölten coach – as coach of Wolfsberg and Wiener Austria he started with three defeats each.
Memories of 2011
“Starting with a win is perfect,” said Ried’s Super Joker Leo Mikic, who scored four of his five competitive goals from the bench. Under Ibertsberger he finally wants to make it into the starting XI: “We play more offensively, that suits me. I want to play from the start, I believe in myself. I’ll be even better when I start.” Nevertheless, the new chieftain of the Vikings did everything right at his premiere – the return to the back four also worked well. “Reaching the semi-finals is a huge story for SV Ried – but it should also continue,” says Ibertsberger.
The best way would be to make it to the final – which brings back memories of the last Rieder Cup win in 2011 with a kicker: “I was able to experience it and I still get goosebumps today. That must be motivation enough,” says goalie Samuel Sahin-Radlinger , who was in the squad for the 2-0 win against Austria Lustenau at the Ernst Happel Stadium.
