BVB recovers from shock in Lille and moves into the quarter -finals
Borussia Dortmund received an early behind at the OSC Lille in the Champions League. But thanks to Can and Beier, the Dortmund fought their way to the quarter -finals.
Captain Emre can proudly led his royal class specialists to the black and yellow guest block, in which thousands of fans cheered full of relief. Borussia Dortmund has reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League with great morality and can look forward to football festival evenings against the big FC Barcelona. The team of coach Niko Kovac won at OSC Lille in the round of 16 second leg, despite an early deficit, 2-1 (0: 1).
Leader Can (54th minute/penalty) and Maximilian Beier (65th) provided the turn with their goals in a turbulent game with numerous goal area scenes. The previous year’s finalist may continue to hope for the final on May 31st in Munich – in the city, in which BVB succeeded 28 years ago in the Champions League.
“We are extremely relieved. On the one hand, it was enough for the progress, but we also performed really well,” said sports director Sebastian Kehl at DAZN. Only four days after they had been whistled and insulted by their fans, there was now no big party, but at least appreciative applause. “It was a great victory for us,” said goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who had a great debt in the early goal.
OSC Lille meets BVB early
The Dortmunders still have the chance to save their otherwise screwed up season with success in the premier class. The BVB did not let an early set -up through the goal of Jonathan David (5th) in the atmospheric Stade Pierre Mauroy. Dortmund gained numerous opportunities. Unlike in the Bundesliga, the Borussians showed resilience and wit.
These German-German European Cup duels went down in history
1. FC Köln-Borussia Mönchengladbach (UEFA-Cup, 1972/73)
It all started with a Rhein derby in the UEFA Cup: in 1972/73 the 1. FC Köln and Borussia Mönchengladbach met in the round of 16. After a 0-0 Gladbach around the legends Jupp Heynckes and Günter Netzer clearly won the first leg 5: 0. In the next round, the foals met for the next German representative: the 1. FC Kaiserslautern

After the embarrassing 0: 1 against FC Augsburg, Kovac changed his starting eleven to four positions. Waldemar Anton, Maximilian Beier, Marcel Sabitzer and Julian Ryerson moved into the team. Among other things, the recently weak dribble artist Jamie Gitten and, according to Kovac, Ramy Bensebaini, weakened by his Ramadan fasting, stayed outside.
OSC Lille meets early
It started very badly. After a careless Dortmund ball loss on the right side, Ismaily fit in the middle, where David had a lot of space. The 25-year-old actually did not hit the ball particularly hard or placed, but BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel left the shot through his legs, which was slightly deflected by Nico Schlotterbeck. A goal of a goal for the previous Dortmund season.
After all, the BVB did not bend. The guests held against it and sometimes won the very best chances within a very short time. Only Lille keeper Lucas Chevalier and defender Alexsandro clarified in a network against Pascal. Then neither Julian Brandt nor Serhou Guirassy put the ball in the goal in a crazy scene or Serhou Guirassy on his 29th birthday.
Borussia Dortmund without luck
Dortmund had more of the game, but Lille remained dangerous. Captain Benjamin André narrowly missed the 2-0 with his head. Shortly before the break, a large headball touched the crossbar-the BVB lacked luck.
Even after the change of sides, the Borussia played further forward and was rewarded. Guirassy went down in the duel with former Dortmund Thomas Meunier and referee Sandro Schärer decided on a penalty. Captain can converted safely.
From the compensation, the game was not only completely open from the result. Both teams played forward. Kobel prevented Hákon Haraldson from a long -range shot by Hákon Haraldson – almost in return, Karim Adeyemi hit the crossbar.
Dream goal of Beier
Shortly afterwards, Beier had the traveling BVB fans cheered. After Guirassy’s passport, the 22-year-old took the ball heavily and banged it from around 14 meters into the corner.
BVB withdrew with the lead in the back. Lille pushed, but was hardly really dangerous. Dortmund confidently brought the lead over time.
The quarter-final first leg against the Barça Star Saile by ex-national coach Hansi Flick will take place on April 8th or 9th in Barcelona. The second leg on April 15 or 16 will increase in Dortmund.
