Bob World Cup
Friedrich wins in the World Cup chaos race-Lochner second
There is no more chaos in a World Cup race. First interruption, then a racing break. But Francecso Friedrich keeps his nerves and remains with his sixth World Cup double of Bob-King.
Francesco Friedrich won the demolition race in the four-man bob at the World Cup in Lake Placid. The two-time double Olympic champion from Pirna prevailed after three races with 0.28 seconds against the Berchtesgadener Johannes Lochner and won his 16th World Cup gold. Third was the BraTe Hall. For Friedrich it was the sixth World Cup double since 2017. Adam Ammour from BRC Thuringia fell back from fourth to five in the last run behind US pilot Frank del Duca.
The day before there was the purest chaos on the train on Mount van Hoevenberg. After the ice was broken out at the Berchtesgadener Lochner in curve, the backrests were driven on bare concrete and thus completely flat, there was a decision by the jury after violent protests. Lochner should repeat his run. On the other hand, the Germans around head coach René Spies made an objection, since a double burden was a conflict of competition within 30 minutes.
In addition, Friedrich, who was still stopped in the middle of his starting preparation at Grün, had to avoid the concrete site in the second run and thus also lost valuable time. In the end, the second round was canceled by the jury and the race continued with the third run.
Friedrich is expanding
In the almost second rating, the 34 -year -old record world champion Friedrich then drove the best time of the day at temperatures around six degrees Celsius and expanded his lead before the final pass from 29 to 54 hundredths of a second. He was also the fastest with his crew Matthias Sommer, Alexander Schüller and Felix Straub, as before in 4.94 seconds.
Lochner, who inserted special shifts with FES mechanic Enrico Zinn, only had to change his flat hindouts, but also the tapper that occurred at the start. He then made two gang touches in the harassment and held the British Hall, which was violently against the World Association IBSF after the cancellation the day before, just barely with two hundredths of a second and secured silver in the final run.
