No podium for the first time: Strelow and Grotian only sixth

At the World Cup there is bronze for Germany in the single mixed. At the World Cup on the Pokljuka it is not enough for Justus Strelow and Selina Grotian for the podium. It looked much better shortly before the end.

Selina Grotian and Justus Strelow took sixth place in the last single mixed race of the biathlon season. The German duo afforded a total of eight relegates on the Slovenian Pokljuka and finished 23.3 seconds behind the victorious Swiss team. Behind it, Sweden and Finland still made it onto the podium.

It was the first time this winter that Germany did not make it to the top three. “It was frustrating,” said Strelow, who was passed on by second place after shooting. Grotian was also not in top constitution. “I wouldn’t have set myself up today,” said the 20-year-old on ZDF.

Grotian caught a mixed start and needed all six extrapatrons on her first assignment. In the meantime, the Bavarian had fallen back to 197th place. However, since the Sachse Strelow did not need a relief loader, Grotian went back to the trail as seventh and was able to settle in the top group. Again, Strelow shone with two quick -fire inlays at the shooting range and was even second, but nothing worked on the final round.

Prussia is easy for World Cup final

At the World Cup in Lenzerheide, Strelow and Franziska Preuss won the bronze medal in February. As planned, the overall World Cup-leading Preuss already left Slovenia and spared itself before the season finale in Oslo at home from next Friday. “You can relax a bit again. It is important that she has a complete day of rest,” said women’s coach Kristian Mehringer.

In Norway, Preuss wants to defend her yellow jersey, but is only 20 points ahead of the French woman Lou JeanMonnot in three outstanding races. Already on Monday evening the German team travels on the wooden cums.
