Winter Games 2022: Cameraman suffers from hypothermia – ZDF breaks off transmission

During a TV broadcast of the Winter Olympics from China, a cameraman has health problems. The transmission is interrupted. The cameraman is feeling better now.

Moment of shock in : A cameraman had health problems during a live broadcast of the Winter Olympics from China. While moderator Alexander Ruda and expert Sven Fischer analyzed Denise Herrmann’s Olympic victory in the women’s biathlon singles, the cameraman complained of nausea. The TV picture wavered. The cameraman apparently had trouble stopping.

“Is everything okay here, are we still in the picture?” asked Ruda. Fischer asked the ailing cameraman to lie down and rushed to help. The transmission to China on Monday was briefly interrupted and it was switched back to Mainz in the Olympia studio with Katrin Müller-Hohenstein.

The all-clear followed a little later: “He’s fine again,” said Ruda on the live broadcast. “He had a little hypothermia, he had that before. He drank something, took off the mask and took a deep breath.” A picture of the recovered cameraman Timo with moderator Ruda was shown in a tweet from the ZDF sports studio. “All clear: cameraman Timo (left, with moderator Alex Ruda) is doing well again. He briefly had health problems during the #biathlon broadcast.”
