Niklas Süle turns his back on FC Bayern – and joins the Revierclub: The central defender is moving to Borussia Dortmund, as the club has now confirmed.
National soccer player Niklas Süle is moving from FC Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer this summer. The contract of the 26-year-old in Munich expires after the current season, the Dortmund announced the signing at BVB on Monday. The and the newspaper had previously reported on the plans of the Bayern star. The 26-year-old defender did not extend his contract with the German record champions, which expires after this season, and is therefore leaving Bayern on a free transfer.
Niklas Süle’s search for a club ended
“We are pleased that we were able to sign a German national player in Niklas Süle on a free transfer and retain them for four years,” said BVB sports director Michael Zorc in a BVB statement on Monday.
Süle “showed us in personal conversations that he was very interested in Borussia Dortmund,” said Zorc. “He has a lot of experience, calm in the build-up game and the necessary physique to take the next step with us from the summer.”
Süle, whose departure from the record champions had been certain for some time, switched from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to Munich for around 20 million euros in the summer of 2017. He was champion with Bayern every season, twice the DFB Cup winner and once a Champions League winner.
Mainly for economic reasons, Süle and Bayern were unable to agree on an extension of the contract that expired at the end of the season.
