Joshua Kimmich extended his contract at FC Bayern last week. So the ZDF invited him to the “current sports studio” – and had to pay the travel expenses.

Bayern star and international Joshua Kimmich is a much sought-after football professional. In the past week, in addition to the Champions League duel between Bayer Leverkusen and FC Bayern, he was even the most important topic in football Germany because he had extended his expiring contract with the Munich.

Kimmich was therefore important to the ZDF and its “current sports studio” as a conversation partner. The TV broadcaster had the professional flying to Frankfurt after the Bundesliga game of FC Bayern at Union Berlin on Saturday afternoon, so that he could ask himself questions from moderator Kathrin Müller-Hohenstein in time in the TV studio in Mainz.

High costs from private jet for the ZDF

At around 5:30 p.m. the game ended in Berlin, at 8:20 p.m. Kimmich landed in a private jet in Frankfurt. From there it went by car to Mainz. As the “Bild” newspaper reported, the public service ZDF took over the costs for the flight, which may have been much higher than if it had taken a scheduled flight. The private jet was necessary because Kimmich would not have reached the line flight in Berlin at 6.50 p.m., the broadcaster said when asked by the “world”.

Interview with Joshua Kimmich

“In the past I would have dragged this defeat with me for a long time”

“The invitation from DFB captain Joshua Kimmich to the ‘current sports studio’ was currently on the occasion of his contract extension announced two days before the program at FC Bayern. The timely arrival to Mainz was only possible on Saturday evening after the Bundesliga game at Union Berlin. ZDF covered the flight costs.

Contract poker was an issue for months

Kimmich’s contract spoker had employed those responsible for months. Kimmich was considered a possible seller last summer, but the situation changed during the current season. Under the new trainer Vincent Kompany, he again performed top performance. Nevertheless, the negotiations dragged on, also because Kimmich rejected a first offer from Bayern for a long time until they finally agreed. Joshua Kimmich’s new contract runs until 2029.
