National League quarter-finals
First training with all players and a goalkeeper duel
Preparation for the Italian cracker is running. The national coach can work with the complete squad on the training ground. Everyone is waiting for the goalkeeper decision.
After the failure of several top performers, national coach Julian Nagelsmann has prepared the preparation for the Nations League quarter-finals with all 23 national soccer players. At the first of just two training sessions before the first leg on Thursday (8:45 p.m./ARD) in Milan, Neuling Yann-Aurel Bisseck and the prominent returnee Leon Goretzka were on the site of Borussia Dortmund.
At the first leg in Italy, the DFB selection is primarily about a good starting position for the decisive second game on Sunday (8:45 p.m./RTL) in Dortmund. The declared goal of Nagelsmann is to create the first-time entry into the final four of the Nations League even without a top performer such as goalkeeper Marc-André Ter and the also injured offensive players Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz against the DFB fear opponent. The final round would then be held in Munich and Stuttgart in early June.
It is open who Nagelsmann declares number one for the Italy games, Hoffenheimer Oliver Baumann or Alexander Nübel from VfB Stuttgart. Both had alternated in four international matches in the DFB goal in autumn.
It was “planned that we have the two games a number one,” Nagelsmann announced during the cadre nomination. “But we will first look for a conversation with the players,” he said. Third and no chance goalkeeper in the contingent is Stefan Ortega from Manchester City.
