Dreifinger Hess World Cup sixth-shoe-ko for Brazilians
The German athletes are only on site at the Hallen World Cup with a mini contingent. At the start, Drezinger Max Hess remains clearly behind its top width. Shoes lead to a disqualification.
Dreifinger Max Hess was unable to intervene in the medal fight at the World Athletes’ indoor championships in China after his strong EM appearance. Eight years after silver in Portland, the Chemnitzer in Nanjing finished sixth under the hall roof.
Heß: has to criticize myself a little bit of criticism
At 17.03 meters, the 28-year-old remained well behind the width of 17.43 meters, with which he had won EM silver in the Netherlands two weeks ago. This width would have brought World Cup silver to the second of the world year’s best list. Twelve centimeters were missing for bronze.
“I struggled with my technology today,” said Hess after his competition. “I didn’t quite hit the HOP-Step transition, which means that the jumps were not as far as in the past competitions. I have to criticize myself that I didn’t quite get it on the track today.” Overall, the indoor season was very successful, “even if the conclusion was not quite as hoped”.
European champion also wins at the World Championships
As a world champion, Hallen European champion Andy Dìaz Hernandez cheered. The Italian won the world year’s best of 17.80 meters. Dìaz won in front of the Chinese Yaming Zhu (17.33 meters) and indoor world recordler Hugues Fabrice Zango from Burkina Faso (17.15). The Brazilian Almir Dos Santos, which was initially considered third, was disqualified hours later. According to the association, he had worn shoes that were not approved for the competition.
The World Championships in China last until Sunday. The German Athletics Association is only represented with a small contingent in the title fights. Most of the DLV team around the Olympic champions Malaika Mihambo (long jump) and Yemisi Ogunleye (shot put) assume this World Cup a year with the outdoor world championships in Tokyo. The World Cup in Japan will take place from September 13th to 21st.
