Potential superstar Gu took gold for China in the Big Air

The 18-year-old, who was born in the USA, prevailed in a high-class final at the Winter Games in Beijing on Tuesday, ahead of France’s Tess Ledeux and Switzerland’s Mathilde Gremaud. Gu is also hoping for gold in the halfpipe and slopestyle as a co-favourite.

Gu has been at the start for China since 2019. The daughter of a Chinese mother and an American father learned to ski at Lake Tahoe, and she feels that she belongs to both nations. Gu is considered a model student, she is a Stanford student and also works as a model. At the World Championships and the X Games last year, she won two gold medals each. She is still undefeated in the halfpipe this season.

Austria’s Lara Wolf and Laura Wallner did not make it into the final of the top twelve as they qualified 21st and 23rd respectively.
