Alcaraz fails early in Miami: “Bad level”
With a tournament victory in Miami, Carlos Alcaraz would have had the chance to overtake Alexander Zverev’s world rankings. But it turns very differently.
Co-favorite Carlos Alcaraz surprisingly failed at the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami. The 21 -year -old Spaniard lost in the second round against Belgian David Goffin with 7: 5, 4: 6, 3: 6. This remains the world number in the ranking behind Alexander Zverev, whom he could have overtaken with a tournament victory and an early from German.
“It was a bad level of mine,” said Alcaraz. “I didn’t play well, I didn’t feel good physically. If you have no confidence in your physique, it is difficult to play tennis well.”
Only third kick-off at Masters
Alcaraz, as a placed player, had a free -wing in the first round. According to the ATP, it was only his third defeat for the Miami winner of 2022 at the start of a Masters tournament. As the top player, Zverev meets Jacob Fearnley in his first game today.
