Benjamin Karl, Andreas Prommegger and Alexander Payer came in second, third and tenth in the 16-man decision for the men, while Julia Dujmovits and Daniela Ulbing came fifth and seventh for the women. Lukas Mathies didn’t make it as 23rd.
South Korean Lee Sang-ho and defending champion Ester Ledecka were the fastest. After the two qualifying runs, the Czech was more than 2.5 seconds ahead of the second-placed and seemed on course for her third Olympic gold. In 2018 in Pyeongchang she also won the Super-G among the alpine skiers.
As announced, Karl was on a new board and had to let Lee pass him by 0.71 seconds. The 41-year-old Prommegger, now a five-time Olympic participant, lost just 0.12 seconds to his compatriot. Mathies was 1.25 seconds off the climb. Among the women, Sabine Schöffmann from Carinthia had to pass because she was corona positive. The round of 16 decision starts at 7.30 a.m. CET for the women and at 7.48 a.m. for the men.
