Basketball players with lucky: EM preliminary round in Finland
After heavy groups at the home European Championship and the World Cup, the basketball players catch a feasible relay this time. The five European Championship preliminary round games rise in Tampere.
Basketball world champion Germany plays his games in the European Championship preliminary round in Finnish Tampere and escapes a duel with the big NBA stars in the group phase. This was the result of the draw for the tournament this summer (August 27 to September 14th) in Riga in Latvian.
The German opponents in Group B are co-host Finland, Great Britain, Lithuania, Sweden and Montenegro. Together with Lithuania, the team led by captain Dennis Schröder Favorit is on the group victory. The game will be played on August 27th, 29th and 30th as well as on September 1 and 3. From September 6th, the Ko round will begin, which will take place completely in Riga from the round of 16.
Reaching the final round, for which a place among the first four in the group is enough, is not even a minimum goal for the selection of national coach Alex Mumbru. In the morning, Telekom had announced that the German games could be seen not only in MagentaTV, but also on RTL thanks to a sublicent.
Germany did not only caught a lucky with regard to the preliminary round: the co -favorites Spain, France, Greece and Slovenia are all in the other half of the tournament and can become German opponents in the quarter -finals at the earliest.
Spain and Greece with NBA star Giannis Antetocounmpo play against each other in Limassol in Cyprus. Olympic silver winner France and Slovenia with Luka Doncic duel in Katowitz in Poland.
National coach Mumbru should largely rely on the world champions of 2023. In addition to playmaker Schröder, the coach puts great hopes for young star Franz Wagner as well as the veterans Daniel Theis and Johannes Voigtmann. Moritz Wagner will lack the team due to injury.
