The babies have taken over the Beijing Olympics… on social media, at least. The Winter Games are in full swing, which is reason enough for the official Olympics account to spread some fun on Twitter. The creators released a three-minute video of babies competing. “If cute babies competed at the Winter Games,” reads the post. It features babies competing in different disciplines. “Best highlight video yet!” comments a viewer. “This is the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen!” writes another. More critical voices accuse the makers of wanting to use babies as sympathizers to cover up criticism of the games and China’s human rights violations. They write, for example, “Next time try it with puppies ” or just boycott the games. But it is not the first time that the official Olympia channel has relied on the sympathy factor of babies. As early as 2018, toddlers wowed the net in sportsman’s poses at the summer games.
