VfB Stuttgart trainer
Hoeneß breaks off TV interview-that is behind it
Sebastian Hoeneß gives an interview to the DFB Cup final after the move of VfB Stuttgart. Then he becomes aware of a meeting in the penalty area – and has to hurry.
Sebastian Hoeneß broke off his television interview for the most important team photo of the recent club history and raced to his team. “I don’t know whether you can call it a sprint, but for my conditions it was a sprint, for others it was probably a permanent run. In any case, I wanted to go very quickly”said VfB Stuttgart coach after the 3-1 (1-0) against Bundesliga rival RB Leipzig and the first move into the cup final since 2013.
The 42-year-old described the moments in a good mood after the final whistle. “I gave an interview at ZDF and then saw on the screen that the team and all supervisors and everyone position themselves in goal”said the coach. “And then I had to cancel the interview because I also wanted to be in the photo.” He thought that the lawn was moist and that he could slip in. “It didn’t work so well. But of course I wanted to be there”he said with a smile.
A dream came true for Sebastian Hoeneß
On May 24th, VfB Stuttgart can secure the first title since the 2007 championship in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium against the clear outsider Arminia Bielefeld. It would be the first triumph of the Swabians in the DFB Cup since 1997 under the then coach Joachim Löw. Third division Bielefeld had sensationally prevailed against Doublegewinner Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday and has already thrown four Bundesliga clubs out of the trophy.
With the success against the Leipziger from InterimScoach Zsolt Löw, the Stuttgart ended a negative series of six games without a win. Hoeneß said that he personally came true with the final. “It’s just great.”
