Ski-ace Federica Brignone also torn the cruciate ligament when they fall at the national championships in the giant slalom. How long it will fail is unclear.
The ski racer Federica Brignone injured the knee even worse in her severe fall at the Italian championships than initially thought. The 34 -year -old world champion and overall World Cup winner not only suffered broken bones, but also tore the anterior cruciate ligament, as Italy’s winter sports association FISI announced after an examination in a hospital in Milan.
Brignone was operated on on Thursday evening after suffering a multiple fracture of the shin plateaus and the fabric’s head in the left knee hours earlier at a giant slalom in Val di Fassa. The intervention took several hours and was optimal, it said from the FISI.
Ten months for comeback? Watch for the Olympics
The cruciate ligament injury will be taken into account in the next few weeks and decide how to treat it. Brignones rehab is scheduled to begin in the next few days.
It is unclear how long the Italian ski ass will be. Media already speculates that it could take ten months for the exceptional athlete to be in top shape again. So it should be a race against time for Brignone: in exactly ten months, the Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo’s Olympic Games are coming up.
