For title maturity: Nagelsmann wants more variable DFB team

The German national team belongs to world leaders again. So that it is enough for a title again, the national coach is particularly working on one thing.

For the title maturity at the 2026 World Cup, national coach Julian Nagelsmann has identified the variability of the national soccer team as a missing piece of the puzzle. “Now we are slowly back in the status, where other teams also see us as a favorite and maybe think more about how they may be able to crack the well -known plan. We have to be a bit more variable overall,” said Nagelsmann in the interview from Redaktion network Germany: “But this variability takes a little longer than in the club.”

As a national coach, he could not influence individual processes as much as a club coach, said the 37-year-old. Nevertheless, he and his coaching team would have “brought essential things into the DFB selection”. This was also very important in his decision on the early contract extension by 2028.

“If I had the feeling that I am only there that I was a good atmosphere in the team, that I am the good mood on the player, that the players feel like it-that would not satisfy me either,” said Nagelsmann.

Nagelsmann raves about Ronaldo

The national coach looked at the final Four of the Nations League with the semi -finals on June 4 in Munich against Portugal. Should the German international play in their clubs regularly and in a responsible role, “then I am in good spirits that we can also play a very good semi -finals against Portugal and then hopefully will also be the winner in the final”.

Nagelsmann is particularly looking forward to Portugal’s superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. “I think he is an impressive player with an impressive career.” To be so fit and powerful at the age of 40, “you can only take your hat,” said Nagelsmann: “I look forward to it and hope that he will not find his free kick qualities against us.”
