At the end of the season: “The day is here”: De Bruyne announced goodbye to Man City

Belgium’s midfield star Kevin de Bruyne will leave the English champion Manchester City at the end of the season after ten years. “None of this is easy to write, but as a football player we all know that this day will come. This day is there-and she deserves to hear it first of me,” said the 33-year-old in a statement that was widespread on social networks.

“Football led me to all of you – and to this city. I followed my dream without knowing that this time would change my life,” wrote the Cityzens captain: “This city. This club. These people … gave me everything else than to return everything! And you know what – we won everything.”

After moving from VfL Wolfsburg in 2015, the Belgian shaped a success era at Man City. With the club he won six championship titles and the Champions League in 2023. Most recently, he had lost his regular place with the starting coach Pep Guardiola at the troubled English champion. His contract, which expires at the end of June, will not be extended, De Bruyne is therefore free of charge for other clubs.

“Whether we like it or not, it is time to say goodbye,” wrote the midfielder. Manchester and the club would remain in the heart forever with him and his family, the professional confirmed: “We cannot thank the city, the association, the employees, teammates, friends and the family for this ten -year trip. Every story comes to an end, but this was definitely the most beautiful chapter. Let us enjoy these last moments together!”
