End of an era
“Decision extremely difficult” – FC Bayern mentions the reason for Müller’s contract
FC Bayern Munich separates from club legend Thomas Müller. There will never be one like him, it is said.
FC Bayern Munich justified Thomas Müller’s separation in the summer with the squad planning and at the same time announced its own farewell game for the 35-year-old. The 2014 world champion will play his last competitive games for the Munich team at the club World Cup in the USA.
The German football record champion wanted to focus on the future, said sports director Max Eberl, the decision that FC Bayern was not easy. “The conversations we held with Thomas were open and transparent from both sides.”
Bavarian managers appreciate Thomas Müller
“Nobody won German championships anymore, and so far 33 titles speak volumes. He is involved in the ranks of the most outstanding personalities of FC Bayern,” Bayern President Herbert Hainer praised the offensive player.
With the separation from Müller, an era ends at the Munich team. “There will never be one again, no question, and he internalized FC Bayern from an early age. This decision was extremely difficult, everyone can understand that,” said sports director Christoph Freund.
He initially left open whether Müller will end his career in summer or switch to another club. There was recently speculated about a commitment in the United States.
