Manchester United probably wanted to strengthen the goalkeeping position on Deadline Day and received a rebuff from Newcastle.
England’s record champions Manchester United apparently failed with a swap deal for the goalkeeper position on Deadline Day. According to Manchester Evening News the Red Devils had already accepted a loan from their second keeper to Premier League rivals Newcastle United on January 31 until the end of the season.
In return, Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka should come to Manchester on loan until the end of the season. But the 33-year-old Slovakian turned down the deal and with it the role as number two behind David de Gea.
Henderson lacks match practice at Manchester United
Dubravka then scored in Newcastle’s 3-1 win against Everton last Tuesday, while Henderson is likely to be without match practice following United’s exit from domestic cup competitions.
The 24-year-old is considered a great goalkeeping talent in England and had legitimate hopes of becoming a regular keeper at Man United before the current season.
However, a protracted corona illness threw Henderson off track and allowed de Gea to consolidate his place between the posts again.
