The upcoming fight between Magomed Ismailov and Nigerian rival Olanrewaju Durodola within the REN TV Fight Club should be interesting. This was stated on Wednesday, February 9, in an interview with Izvestia by Russian mixed martial artist (MMA) Alexander Shlemenko.
“The upcoming fight should be interesting because these are two active fighters. They are not downed pilots, not veterans, not freaks. These are real fighters, and both are representatives of different types of martial arts – boxing and MMA. Therefore, the fight should hypothetically be interesting, ”said Shlemenko.
According to him, Durodola is a pretty good athlete who has not finished his career yet. Shlemenko also called him a strong and punchy boxer. At the same time, as the fighter clarified, for Ismailov “there is a small loophole” – a reduced number of rounds that will last only three minutes.
“In my opinion, MMA is a more perfect sport. It is in terms of functional endurance, in terms of various movements and movements. Therefore, in a fight with a reduced number of rounds if it was a 12-round boxing match, then, of course, the boxer would have a better chance. But since this is not the case, I still believe that Maga has a very good chance of winning, ”said Shlemenko.
At the same time, the MMA fighter wished Ismailov good luck in the upcoming fight, adding that he would bet that Ismailov “will have problems with the functionality in this fight.”
The fight will take place on February 25 as part of the REN TV Fight Night and will be the main event of the tournament. Ismailov last fought under MMA rules last year, he fought with athlete Vladimir Mineev. The wrestler has 17 victories, three defeats and one draw.
Ismailov’s opponent is the reigning ABU African champion and former WBC Silver and WBC Continental Americas cruiserweight champion.
