Masters: Golfstar McIlroy in the lead before final day

Rory McIlroy has been chasing the so-called career grand slam for eleven years: victories in all four golf majors. It could work on Sunday. Thanks to the next strong round, he is in the lead in Augusta.

Northern Ireland’s golfstar Rory McIlroy has the great chance of the longed-for victory at the Masters in Augusta and thus also on the so-called career Grand slam. The 35-year-old goes with two strokes on the final round of the only major that he has not yet won in his career. “It was a fantastic day and I am in a great position for tomorrow,” said Mcilroy, who is currently twelve strokes under par at 204 strokes.

Mcilroy doesn’t want to think of the US Open

The Northern IRE again played a 66 round on the third of four tournament days and, as already the day before, needed fewer strokes than any other participant. The American Bryson Dechambeau is two strokes on the last round on the last round. Dechameau had grabbed the victory at the US Open last summer on the last lanes.

“It’s about not making this a revenge,” said Mcilroy. “Just stay in my own little world. There are some people who can have a run. I have to do what I have already done and surround myself with a small cocoon.”

McIlroy has won all majors – only Augusta is still missing

The star from Northern Ireland has already achieved almost everything in its career – only the Masters title is still missing in its collection. All other majors, the British Open, the US Open and the PGA Championship, have already won McIlroy. His last triumph with a major was eleven years ago.

The Canadian Corey Conners is in third place behind McIlroy and Dechameau, after a 70s round he has four blows on the top on Saturday. Justin Rose slipped back to the shared sixth place after two days. The Brit played a 75 round.

The only remaining German in the field, Stephan Jäger, slid back a bit after a 73 round and is located on the divided 43th place. Golf Idol Bernhard Langer failed on Friday at his last Masters appearance by one blow on the cut.
