The Gabonian national football player Aaron Poupendza died in China at the age of 28. This was announced by Zhejiang FC. According to his Chinese club, the professional died in his house.
The association did not call more precise circumstances, but emphasized that they work with the responsible authorities to take up the investigation. The Gabonian Football Association said that Poupendza “fell from the eleventh floor of his house in China”.
Aubameyang mourns: “No words”
His Gabonian national team colleague Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang expressed his grief on Instagram. “I have no words. Rest in peace my brother,” wrote the former Bundesliga striker.
Poupendza has played for the Chinese first division club Zhejiang FC since the beginning of this year. In his career, the footballer from the Central African coastal state was active in France, Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Romania and the USA. In the 2020/2021 season, he had become a top scorer for Hatayspor with 38 goals in 22 games of the Turkish Süper Lig.
Gabnun’s President Brice Oligui Nguema announced on social media that he had learned with “great mourning” about the eggendza’s death.
