Laureus prices for Biles and Duplantis – Bayer goes away empty -handed
The only German representative must be defeated by a Spanish exceptional cloister at the award ceremony. There are special prices for two legends.
Simone Biles, Armand Duplantis and Real Madrid are among the winners of the Laureus World Sports Awards. At the award ceremony in Madrid, the US gymnastics superstar and the Swedish pole vault world recorder were awarded as a athlete of the year, as Laureus announced in a message. The Madrilenes were honored as a team of the year.
No award for Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen’s footballers were the only German representative empty in the 26th edition of the global sports award. The German champion was nominated in the “Thinking of the Year” category, but had to surrender to the 17-year-old Spanish soccer player Lamine Yamal.
According to Laureus, the seven-time gymnastics Olympic champion Biles caught up with her fourth award with compatriot and tennis legend Serena Williams. Her competitor Rebeca Andrade from Brazil received the comeback award-after many serious injuries, including three cruciate ligament tears, Olympic gold in Paris won last summer.

This year the academy also awarded two special prizes: the tennis star Rafael Nadal, who resigned in 2024, received the “Laureus Sporting Icon Award”, the 11-time surf world champion Kelly Slater the “Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award”.
Last year, tennis star Novak Djokovic, footballer Aitana Bonmati and footballer Jude Bellingham won trophies. 25 years ago at the first ceremony, Monaco Tiger Woods, Marion Jones and Lance Armstrong were among the award winners.
