At his own request
Assistant coach Sandro Wagner leaves national team in summer
This decision comes as a surprise: Sandro Wagner will leave DFB in summer – a year before the World Cup. The assistant of national coach Julian Nagelsmann already has plans.
At his own request, Sandro Wagner will hand over his position as assistant coach of the national team in summer, according to the DFB website on Friday morning. In consultation with national coach Julian Nagelsmann, the 37-year-old Wagner ends his work after the final Four of the UEFA Nations League.
Apparently Wagner is aiming for a position as head coach. “I can personally understand Sandro’s wish to become head coach and respect his decision. We had a good and always transparent exchange,” said national coach Julian Nagelsmann.
