With the post of Minister of State for Sport, German sports tips combine great hopes. Now the CDU has announced who should take over the office.

The CDU politician Christiane Schenderlein is expected to become Minister of State for Sport and Volunteering in the future federal government. This was announced by the CDU in Berlin. The Saxon member of the Bundestag entered the CDU in 1998 and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2021. The 43-year-old is currently spokeswoman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group and belongs to the Committee on Culture and Media.

The German sports leaders had vehemently campaigned for the creation of the position of the post of a Sports Minister of Sports in the Federal Chancellery before the Bundestag election. The German Olympic Sports Confederation welcomed that the designated Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) had a word and met this central demand. “Now it will be a matter of fulfilling this structural reorganization with life and implementing the urgently needed coordination function of sports policy activities at the federal government level,” said DOSB President Thomas Weikert.

The German Football Association had previously called for “a voice for sport” to bundle the various areas of sports policy. So far, the sport was formally located at the Federal Ministry of the Interior.

Sport hopes for a lot of money and Olympics

Schenderlein led the working group for culture and media alongside Volker Ullrich (CSU) and Carsten Brosda (SPD). Schenderlein has been a member of the ZDF remote council since 2020.

For sport, the new federal government is concerned with important course such as the future of top sports funding and an application for Olympic Games. A sports funding law launched by the traffic light coalition is currently on ice. His centerpiece is the foundation of an independent sports agency to distribute the grant.

The sport also hopes for a lot of money for the renovation and new construction of sports facilities. A new Olympic start is said to be a boost for sports development after Germany recently failed several times with applications. The traffic light coalition had already cleared the way for a candidacy-the summer games 2040. Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Leipzig and the Rhein-Ruhr region have signaled interest.
