Six games lock for Rüdiger after the final grid

Antonio Rüdiger is punished hard for his freak in the cup final. The association judges impose a long lock against Real Madrid’s professional. Nevertheless, the damage is limited.

Football player Antonio Rüdiger has to pay for his violent outbreak in the Spanish cup final. Real Madrid’s defender was blocked by Spain’s association for six games.

Shortly before the end of the extension of the final against FC Barcelona (2: 3), the Rüdiger, who had already replaced, had insulted the referee and thrown at an object.

In terms of sport, however, the damage is limited to the Germans: the 32-year-old has to take a longer break anyway. Because of a partial tear of the outer meniscus in the left leg, Rüdiger had undergone an operation and could therefore also be missing from the national team at the Nations League final tournament in Munich and Stuttgart in early June. Spanish media expect a downtime of six to eight weeks.

Rüdiger himself hopes for a faster return. “I want to be able to play again as soon as possible, as the Nations League and the Club World Cup have two big tournaments in front of me,” wrote the DFB defense chief on Instagram. Despite the violent debate about his freak out in the cup final, DFB sports director Rudi Völler had shown that no suspension of Rüdiger was planned in the national team.

“Toni is a great player – but as a national player, he also has to show great in his behavior. He rightly demands respect for himself, he has to show this respect without exception,” said Völler about the event in the final for the Spanish royal cup.

Rüdiger had hardly been tamed in the scene. The decision of the Ricardo de Burgos Bengoechea referee, who had whistled the last attack by the royal because of an offensive foul by Kylian Mbappé. Rüdiger raged in front of the replacement bench, tore the ice cream bag from his damaged knees and could hardly be tamed by teammates and supervisors. He received the red card for his tantrum.

Rüdiger regretted misconduct

The referee had captured the events in his game report and documented both the aggressive behavior of the real defender and the throw of an object in its direction. According to the rules, Rüdiger had to fear a drastic punishment, so a block several months even appeared possible.

Rüdiger had shown after the tumults of remorse in the morning and wrote on social networks that there was no excuse for his behavior. “I’m very sorry,” he assured and asked the referee and everyone he disappointed, forgiveness. The ex-international Lothar Matthäus and Dietmar Hamann had also called for consequences for Rüdiger in the DFB selection.

In contrast, his former real player Toni Kroos jumped as well as former national goalkeeper Oliver Kahn. “Emotions on the square are not always helpful. But who doesn’t even shoot out the target,” Kahn wrote on social media. Rüdiger showed insight. “That should be enough,” Kahn said. The sports judges saw it differently.

Real threatens Titellose season

Rüdiger’s real colleague Lucas Vazquez and Jew Bellingham had also seen red from the referee in the final seconds of the cup final. Vazquez was blocked for two games. The red card against ex-Dortmund Bellingham, on the other hand, was withdrawn.

In the spectacular final, FC Barcelona with coach Hansi Flick also won the third Clásico this season after a win against Real in the league and the success in the Supercup. At the next duel in the championship on May 11, the injured Rüdiger will be missing.

Five game days before the end of the season, the defending champion is four points behind league leaders Barça. In the Champions League, the record winner failed in the quarter -finals at Arsenal and has to fear a titellosis.
