Stars, mode and Germany’s chances at the ice hockey World Cup
The ice hockey World Cup begins on Friday. Germany hopes for a similar coup to 2023 when the DEB team surprisingly became vice world champion-everything important about the tournament.
The German national ice hockey team is optimistic about the World Cup, which starts in Sweden and Denmark on Friday. For the DEB team, the tournament begins a day later with the game against Hungary (4:20 p.m./ProSieben and Magenta Sport).
Where is played at the ice hockey World Cup?
The World Cup is held in Stockholm and in Herning in Danish. Germany plays in Group B in Herning. Group A with hosts Sweden plays their games in Stockholm. Last year finalist Switzerland, the USA and world champion Czech Republic are waiting for the district team. At the preliminary round, it goes against host Denmark.
Who are the favorites?
Olympia 2026 ensures well -occupied teams. There is therefore no top favorite this year. Record world champion Canada, host Sweden, Finland, the USA and defending champion Czech Republic. But surprises like the finalist Switzerland last year or the German team 2023 are always possible.
What stars are there?
Superstar Sidney Crosby is aiming for his personally second World Cup title with Canada. The 37-year-old from the Pittsburgh Penguins recently took part in a World Cup tournament in 2015 at Canada’s success. Nathan Mackinnon from Colorado Avalanche also increases the offensive of the record world champion. The striker became the second best scorer with 32 goals and 84 templates in the past regular NHL season. World Champion Czech Republic comes to Denmark with David Pastrnak from the Boston Bruins. What else is important at the World Cup?
Olympia 2026 in Milan is already a big topic, especially among the top teams. For the first time since 2014, the NHL stars will fight for Olympic gold in February. Germany is already qualified for the Olympics. Because of the Russian attack war in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus are still excluded from the title fights.
