At Bayern, Carlo Ancelotti was once one of Milos Pantovic’s sponsors. Today’s Bochumer now remembered a special moment.
Milos Pantovic. In Munich he played under some world-class coaches. The 25-year-old had a particularly close relationship with Carlo Ancelotti.
Pantovic made his debut for the record champions in autumn 2015 under Pep Guardiola, but the time under Ancelotti left a more lasting impression. The Italian, who was in office from 2016 to September 2017, had him, like his predecessor, train regularly with the professionals.
“The farewell to Ancelotti will always stay in my mind personally,” Pantovic said in an interview sports1. A day after Ancelotti’s dismissal, team manager Kathleen Krüger called him and asked if he would like to meet his sponsor again in person.
“I immediately went across town to see him and his son again and to thank them,” Pantovic explained and reported on the meeting with Ancelotti and his staff: “They then told me that I would play in the Bundesliga I’m going to be a pro and I’m sure we’ll see each other again in a few years. That was a very nice moment of appreciation for me and I will never forget Ancelotti.”
The dream of the Bundesliga has now come true. Pantovic is one of the top performers in Bochum. After not being able to assert himself in Munich for eleven years, he switched to the then second division team in 2018. Last summer, VfL rose to the German Oberhaus.
Pantovic: jump to the professionals “one board”
“The time at Bayern was outstanding,” Pantovic recalled. Establishing oneself with the pros is “already a challenge. After all, in recent years we’ve been talking about perhaps the best Bayern team that has ever existed.”
Nevertheless, “there is absolutely no shame in taking the next step elsewhere and finding your own way,” added the midfielder
On Saturday () Pantovic can then prove his class in front of his former superiors. In the first leg, Bochum lost 7-0 in the Allianz Arena.
