Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts play against each other in Berlin
It was known that the football team of the Indianapolis Colts was coming to Berlin for a game of the NFL. Now the opponent has also been determined – and the date.
With the duel between the two-time Superbowl champion Indianapolis Colts and the Atlanta Falcons, Berlin is experiencing its first NFL main game. The so -called Germany Game will take place on November 9th in the Olympic Stadium. The North American football league confirmed the corresponding information from the German Press Agency in the afternoon. The game is broadcast live at RTL on television and stream.
The NFL had already announced in January that the Colts two years after their guest performance in Frankfurt (10: 6 against the New England Patriots) and appear as a home team. Atlanta plays for the first time in this country. Ticket sales should start in the next few weeks.
How much does the NFL deal cost the city of Berlin?
For the football league it is the fifth regular season game on German soil. Germany has been the venue for NFL games as part of the International Series since 2022. After two games in Munich and Frankfurt each, we are now going to the capital. Germany’s NFL boss Alexander Steinforth had spoken of a “historical moment”. Berlin was already hosting preparatory games in the 90s.
The game between the Colts and the Falcons will not remain the only one in the German capital. Up to three games will take place in the cooperation in the Olympic Stadium, which is designed until 2029.
According to the Senate, the NFL deal costs around 12.5 million euros. The investment is intended to set sustainable impulses for tourism through the many visitors. Sports Senator Iris Spranger had referred to added value from the games in Munich (70 million euros) and Frankfurt (110 million).
How many German professionals play at the Colts and Falcons?
For the Brandenburg football professional Maximilian Mang, the game could become a home game in November. The Tight End had signed a contract a few days ago. According to Marcel Dabo, the 25-year-old is the second German in the contingent of the Colts.
Kicker Lenny War and offensive Tackle Kilian Zierer also play two Germans at the Falcons. “It is probably the most German game that we have had on German soil to date – or the most German -speaking,” said Steinforth.
