Zverev with combative performance in the quarter -finals of Rome

Alexander Zverev has recently delivered hot duels with the Frenchman Arthur Fils. German number one prevails in Rome.

Defending champion Alexander Zverev moved into the quarter-finals at the tennis tournament in Rome. The Hamburg, which was placed in number two, defeated the Frenchman Arthur Fils 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 1 and thus celebrated the fourth victory in the sixth comparison. Most recently, Zverev had to give up the 20-year-old at the Masters tournament in Miami.

Like the past encounters, this match was at first competitive again. Initially, Zverev missed a possible 5: 1 lead in the first set, then Fils worked back into the game with his powerful game. Zverev then used the fourth set ball under the floodlights.

In the second set, too, German number one had to work for many points, Fils also helped with a few mistakes in crucial moments. Zverev then pulled away with an early break in the back and won after 1:45 hours.

“It was an up and down, the level was high and right, really good. I couldn’t accuse myself too much, I did the right thing, in the end it paid off,” said Zverev and praised the appearance of his opponent. In the quarter -finals, Zverev meets the Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who previously prevailed against the Russian Daniil Medvedev after a long break.

When Musetti won his first match ball, heavy rain had already started. After the two-hour break, the local hero immediately took advantage of this chance to 7: 5, 6: 4 success, so that only one point was played when the sequel was continued. “Lorenzo has a lot of confidence, but I am also here to stay,” said Zverev.
