World Cup out for Reichel: ice hockey team without NHL star
After three victories at the start of the World Cup, there is bad news for the national ice hockey team. Before the duels with the top nations, it is clear that NHL star Reichel will not go on.
The German national ice hockey team must get by in the remaining games at the World Cup without NHL striker Lukas Reichel. The 22-year-old from the Chicago Blackhawks sustained a shoulder injury on Tuesday 5-2 against Norway and can no longer play in Denmark.
“It is very bitter for Lukas, he had a strong start to the tournament so far and has made a big contribution. Nevertheless, we have enough quality in a team to be able to deal with such situations,” said national coach Harold Kreis after more precise studies on Wednesday. The former Berliner convinced in the three previous World Cup games with a goal and three templates.
The German team meets Vice World Champion Switzerland after three victories on Thursday (4.20 p.m./ProSieben and Magenta Sport). After that, two more strong opponents are waiting in the USA and world champion Czech Republic. The preliminary round is duel with host Denmark.
