Zverev misses the Rome semi -finals
Against local hero Lorenzo Musetti, Alexander Zverev must be beaten in two sets. This has consequences for the German tennis star.
Defending champion Alexander Zverev left the tennis tournament in Rome in the quarter-finals. The Hamburg, which was set to number two, lost 6: 7 (1: 7), 4: 6 after 2:16 hours against the strongly playing local hero Lorenzo Musetti. Due to the missed semi-finals, the 28-year-old Zverev also loses world ranking position two to Carlos Alcaraz (22) from Spain.
Like the past encounters, this match was at first competitive again. Zverev started the duel under floodlights and quickly took the serve to the 23 -year -old Musetti. The courageous and variable Italian came into play with increasing playing time. In the end, the tie break had to decide, in which Musetti smashed a few brilliant stops and did not give Zverev a chance.
In the second sentence, Zverev presented himself much more prone to errors, often piloted and no longer really found the game back. Musetti, for whom it was the third victory in the fourth comparison with Zverev, now meets Alcaraz in the semi -finals.
