Zverev after ending in Rome: “Balls were a joke”
The title defense is gone, second place in the ranking: Alexander Zverev collects a bad slump in Rome. After that, the German tennis star seems eaten.
The German tennis star Alexander Zverev complained about the balls after the end of the tournament in Rome and gave his opponent Lorenzo Musetti a verbal swipe. “The balls were a joke today. They say we play in Monaco, Madrid and Munich with the same balls. Then we come here and the balls are very different. They are very big. It is difficult to beat Winner here,” said Zverev.
The 28-year-old had previously lost his quarter-finals against Musetti 6: 7 (1: 7), 4: 6. The title defense at the Masters tournament in the Italian capital had had to tick off the Italian.
Semi-final duel in Paris with Sinner threatens
As a result, Zverev will lose second place in the world rankings. At the French Open (May 25th to June 8th) in Paris, a duel with the Italian world rankings Jannik Sinner could therefore be possible in the semifinals.
Zverev said that winners Musetti also benefited from his numerous mistakes. “He is very dependent on his defensive. He is very dependent on the fact that his opponents make mistakes,” said Zverev. Both actors beat 20 winners over 2:16 hours over 2:16 hours. However, while Musetti only made 22 avoidable mistakes, it was at Zverev 36.
