Cologne-Profi comments on alcohol and spanking scandal for the first time

Tim Lemperle stayed silent for a long time, now he breaks his silence: the striker apologizes to the Cologne fans and thanks his team – but he also wants to clarify something.

It took over a week until Tim Lemperle comments on the scandal around him. The 23-year-old striker of the 1st FC Köln had come into a dispute with fans before the decisive game for returning to the Bundesliga at a party night and was ridiculed.

In the last second division game against Kaiserslautern, the Cologne team achieved a 4-0 home win and thus the championship and the promotion. Coach Friedhelm Funkel changed Lemperle in the second half, who received whistles from some fans.

Tim Lemperle speaks of attack on him

After the season finale, Lemperle now turned directly to the FC supporters via Instagram-and apologized to them. “Dear FC fans, after this turbulent week I would also like to comment on my situation. First of all, I would like to apologize for my unprofessional behavior. As a professional footballer and believer, I didn’t pay enough attention to my role model function,” said the footballer in a story.

“I was not aware of the unrest before such an important game as against Lautern. I am infinitely sorry and I know that I disappointed many of you through my behavior,” continued Lemperle. On social media, many fans had previously been indignant about the incident that they accused the player in lack of professionalism.

The Cologne professional adds: “But I would also like to make it clear that I was attacked.” The police are currently still investigating in this case.

Striker changes to TSG Hoffenheim

For Lemperle, it would also have been the case with a non-promotion in the Bundesliga: the 23-year-old changes free of charge to TSG Hoffenheim in the summer. He did not comment on this, but thanked his teammate: “A big thank you goes to my team, which gave me a lot of support and showed such a strong performance against Lautern. I am grateful that I was allowed to be part of this team.”
