Vini Jr. racistly insulted: court sentenced fans to prison terms

Real Madrid player
Court sentenced football fans about racism against Vini Jr.

For years, Real Madrids Vini Jr. has repeatedly targeted racist insults and threats. Now five men in Spain were sentenced to prison terms.

Five football fans in Spain have been sentenced to a one -year prison sentence for probation for racist insults by the Brazilian striker Vinícius Junior. The Professional League (LA LIGA) said that all accused would have reached a corresponding agreement with the public prosecutor and co -plants before the trial before the district court in Valladolid. It is “milestone” because it was the first conviction in Spain, “the racist insults in stadiums classify as hate crimes”.

The accused cleared insults against Vini Jr.

According to the judiciary, the defendants admitted to the Brazilian from Real Madrid during the league game at Real Valladolid on December 30, 2022. Among other things, they were also occupied with fines of up to 1,620 euros and a job ban of four years in the education, leisure and sports sector.

Meanwhile, the men do not have to go to prison, because in Spain in the event of unpahed -convicted prison terms of up to two years are exposed to probation.

“Determined step to combat racism in sport”

In order to avoid a prison sentence, the accused accepted two central requirements as part of the agreement: they must not be relapsed within three years and do not enter any stadiums in which official competitions take place.

“This is a determined step to combat racism in sport,” emphasized La Liga in her message. So far, there have only been convicts of violations of moral integrity in racist incidents in the stadiums, in which racism had at best considered “aggravating facts”.

Not the first attack against the real striker

“The fact that the current judgment expressly calls the hate crimes in connection with racist insults strengthens the message that intolerance has no place in football,” said the league.

Vini Jr. has been the goal of racist attacks for years. Some fan groups see his partly provocative playing style as an alibi to insult him before and during games and threaten him. The rush reached the previous climax in January 2023: Before the Copa del Rey derby between Real and City Rival Atlético Madrid, the right-wing extremist ultra group “Frente Atlético” hung a straw doll with a jersey by Vini Jr. on a motorway bridge near Real’s training area. Together with the transparent “Madrid Hassen Real”. Almost four months later, the perpetrators were caught and charged.
