Mats Hummels goes. His farewell took about three minutes
After his end at BVB, Mats kicked Hummels for the AS Rome. The ex-international did not hold there for a long time. Now he was briefly on the lawn during his farewell game.
It has been a long time since Mats Hummels was on the pitch for AS Rome. In the last game of his club against FC Turin, the German soccer world champion had a last short mission: he was substituted in the 90th minute. The Romans were already 2-0 in front. Hummels remained three minutes of stoppage time. Then his career was officially over.
The fact that Hummels spent most of his final game on the bench was probably because he was not one of the best team in the eyes of coach Claudio Ranieri. He wanted to set up his best team in the game for the Champions League qualification. Apparently the ex-international from Germany was not one of them.
In the end, Hummels was celebrated: After the game, his teammates threw him in the air and caught him again.

Mats Hummels played a season for AS Rome
Hummels had been under contract with AS Rome since September 2024 after he left BVB at the end of the season. One reason is likely to have been an interview that the ex-international gave the “Sport-Bild” in spring 2024. Hummel’s then BVB coach Edin Terzic had indirectly criticized it.
For Hummels, there was no future at the Borussia Dortmund after the season with the royal class final. The farewell to the German Club is still gnawing on the football professional. “It should have been different than for me. Actually, it is more like it is told in a personal conversation. I think I wanted to pay the interview home and put it on the press before it was publicly announced,” said Hummels on ZDF.
After his end at BVB, the clubless Hummels landed at AS Rome. The collaboration between Hummels and AS Rome was limited to one year from the start. In the exterior game against AC Florence with an own goal in the 71st minute of the game, he made his first compulsory use.
