Lys out: French open for German players

The French Open are over for the German tennis women. German number one was the last player in round two.

The French Open are over for Germany’s tennis players before they really start. The last German number one said Eva Lys in Paris in the second round – after a mixed performance at 4: 6, 4: 6 against the Canadian qualifier Victoria Mboko.

“It was certainly not one of my best days on the court today. I didn’t quite find my timing,” said Lys after her bitter defeat. “I was always a little late.”

Trio already out in round one

Tatjana Maria, Laura Siegemund and Tamara Korpatsch had already failed in the first round before Lys. “Of course that’s disappointing,” said the national coach Torben Beltz, which is responsible for women. “We had hoped that Eva made it into the third round. Unfortunately, she didn’t play as well as in the first round.”

There, the 23 -year -old Hamburg native had clearly won the American Peyton Stearns in two sets against number 28 and awakened hopes for a successful course in Stade Roland Garros. But after 1:19 hours she was out of windy and sometimes rainy weather. “You have good and bad days, everyone works like this. Today was a worse for me and she played very well. You just have to accept that,” said Lys.

Lys with problems right from the start

Lys struggled against Mboko right from the start. The 18 -year -old Canadian, who is predicted a great future, played carefully and always presented Lys with powerful strokes. Lys himself did not play badly, but the 23-year-old was missing the consistency in her strokes.

After 35 minutes, the first sentence went to the Canadian, who also made a quick break in the second round. Lys broke out against the impending. However, the Hamburg native had big problems getting her service. “Overall, it was too little,” she admitted self -critically.
