Final victory against Seville: Chelsea celebrates European Cup titles

The favorite prevails in the final of the Conference League after initial difficulties and ensures a novelty. There were unsightly scenes before the kick -off on the streets in Wroclaw.

Chelsea FC won the Conference League final and thus written football history. Through the 4: 1 (0: 1) final victory against Betis Seville, the blues are the first club to win the title in all major European club competitions.

The English Premier League club had previously triumphed in the Champions League (2012 and 2021), Europa League (2013 and 2019), in the no longer existent European Cup winner (1971 and 1998) and in the UEFA supercup (1998 and 2021).

With Seville’s final defeat in Breslau, Poland, an impressive series of Spanish football ended: for the first time since the beginning of the 2001/02 season, a final with Spanish participation in the Champions League, Europa League of the Conference League did not go out with a win for a Spanish team.

Seville got a measure in his first European Cup final and deservedly took the lead through Abde Ezzalzouli in the 9th minute. Even after that, Betis was the better team for a long time, Chelsea fell little offensive. The fourth in the table of the expired Premier League season increased after the change of sides and secured the victory thanks to the hits from Enzo Fernández (65th), Nicolas Jackson (70th), ex-Dortmunders Jadon Sancho (83.) and Moises Caicedo (90.+1).

Before the kick -off, there had been riots on the streets of Wroclaw. According to the news agency Pap, the police also used glare grenades and water cannons against English and Spanish fans, who caused unrest in the city’s market square. In total, more than 20 people were arrested. Even on Tuesday, there were occasional riots.

Poland Prime Minister Donald Tusk had announced in a post on platform X: “Zero tolerance to violence on our streets!” He thanked the police for a “determined approach to hooligans in Chelsea and Betis jerseys in Wroclaw” and warned on Wednesday: “If necessary, the police will act even more mercilessly today!”
