Formula 1 training
Monaco winner Norris with first best time in Spain
Has the front wing hope of the pursuers already burst? The McLaren from Lando Norris cannot be beaten at first – despite new guidelines and intensified controls.
Monaco winner Lando Norris made the fastest round at the Formula 1 training start at the Grand Prix of Spain. Unimpressed by the tightened controls and guidelines for the front wings, the 25-year-old Brit referred the Dutch Red Bull world champion Max Verstappen to second place with a clear lead.
The competition had hoped that the previously superior McLaren would be slowed down by the ever reinforced controls of the front wings. These can bend even less in the event of a load, which increases the air resistance and thus also the so -called downforce in curves.
WM leaders with more than half a second behind
Norris, however, was the only driver under 1:14 minutes, he needed 1: 13.718 minutes for the course at Barcelona. Verstappen needed 0.367 seconds more. Record world champion Lewis Hamilton followed in third place in front of his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc.
It was only in fifth place in the World Cup leader Oscar Piatri in the second McLaren. However, the 24 -year -old Australian was slower over half a second than Norris at the top. Rank 14 in training jumped out for Nico Hülkenberg, the only German regular driver in the field.
In the World Cup classification, Piatri only leads with three points ahead of Norris. Verstappen is third, the four -time champion has 25 points less than Piatri before the ninth run this Sunday (3 p.m./Sky and RTL).
