New change window
Tah, Ronaldo and Real: Extra transfer rule for club World Cup
The club World Cup flushes millions into the coffers of the clubs who are in the United States. Now suddenly Leverkusen and Liverpool also win a fat plus. A new transfer model makes it possible.
After switching from Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich, negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen really start. When the national player will first appear in the champion’s jersey, depends on further discussions of the Bundesliga top clubs: it is about a trip to America, a new FIFA rule and a possible million payment.
The concrete reason is the new club World Cup and a related necessary transfer model of the World Football Association. Bayern are not the only club that wants to use this in the coming days.
Real Madrid and Tahs Leverkusener Ex-coach Xabi Alonso benefit with the premature, although suddenly costly change from Trent Alexander-Arnold from FC Liverpool. Borussia Dortmund thought about Mats Hummels – and an absolute world star is also involved.
Why is there any other transfer window at all?
With the club World Cup, FIFA has created a transfer problem itself. With the premiere of the XXL format in the USA from June 14 to July 13, a large international club competition goes beyond the usual end date for professional contracts on June 30th.
This means that a changing player in the middle of the tournament should no longer play for his club, could only get in in the second half of the tournament or would even be eligible to play for one and then for the other club. The result would be: total chaos.
The solution: FIFA has introduced a third transfer window to the usual in winter and summer. The 32 participant teams of the club World Cup can commit new players from June 1 to June 10th or extend expiring contracts for the tournament period.
Specifically, the latter was the case with Bayern. Thomas Müller remains a Bayern professional at the end of his original contract on June 30th and ends his legendary Munich time as best as possible with the title win on July 13th in the final stadium in New Jersey.
FIFA also regulated: No player can compete for two different clubs at the tournament.
What is Bayer’s negotiations about?
Simply and simple: for money. According to reports, after the free change, a million sum could be due so that Tah can already play the group games against Auckland, Boca Juniors and Benfica for the Munich. If there is no agreement, Tah will remain formally a Leverkusener by June 30th and could start the club World Cup for Bayern at the earliest, i.e. from the quarter-finals.
What are Borussia Dortmund’s staff plans?
For a long time, I was speculated about a return from Hummels to BVB for the club World Cup. A short comeback by the 2014 soccer world champion, who ended his career with AS Rome after this season, will not exist. This is “not currently planned,” said sports director Sebastian Kehl.
If other defenders are injured in addition to Nico Schlotterbeck, the situation could possibly change again. In addition, the loan agreement with Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea, which expires at the end of June, could be extended to the end of the club World Cup.
Which personal details are internationally interesting?
Lionel Messi is involved with Inter Miami. Cristiano Ronaldo can’t be missing either. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has already opened the Portuguese all goals. A duel of the aged megastars would give the tournament premiere further shine. Ronaldo could leave Al-Nassr FC in Saudi Arabia, which is not qualified for the World Cup. Now only one club has to be found that takes over the 40-year-old at short notice.
The change from Trent Alexander-Arnold from FC Liverpool to Real Madrid is fixed. The same question arose for the royal as for Bayern at Tah. How can you get the important new man from your old club in good time? An agreement was reached: the Reds allegedly get almost ten million euros and Real pays the player’s juni content.
What influence does the club World Cup have on the national teams?
In the window from June 2 to June 10th, the clubs have to park their internationals as usual – for example for the final tournament of the Nations League. National coach Julian Nagelsmann can use all players from Bayern, Dortmund and other participants such as Inter Milan (Yann-Aurel Bisseck).
On the other hand, there is no obligation to provide a duty during the club World Cup. This affects the U21 European Championship in June and the Gold Cup, the continental championship in North, Central America and the Caribbean. The German juniors have to make do with their big summer tournament without Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig and the Neu-Münchner Tom Bishop who compete in America for their club.
