The number one in the world is in the semi -finals in Paris. In the Stade Roland Garros, she succeeds in a quick revenge. Now there is a duel with the defending champion.
The world ranking of Aryna Sabalenka and defending champion Iga Swiatek meet at the French Open in the semi-finals. Sabalenka prevailed in Paris against Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen from China with 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 3 and is thus in the semi -finals for the second time after 2023 in the Stade Roland Garros.
Swiatek defeated crowd favorite Jelina Switolina from Ukraine 6: 1, 7: 5 and thus celebrated her 26th victory in series in the Stade of Roland Garros. The Polish has won the French Open in the past three years.
Sabalenka survives weak first sentence
Sabalenka struggled particularly in the first set and was a break early. “To be honest, I don’t even know how I came back to the first sentence,” said number one in the world. In the second section, Sabalenka was the more dominant player and used her first set ball after less than two hours. At the tournament in Rome immediately in front of the French Open, Zheng Qinwen won in two sets.
Swiatek started furiously against Switolina and initially gave the Ukrainian no chance. In the second set, however, Switolina increased and was about to turn the game. Swiatek made up for an early loss of service again and thus the progress perfectly after 1:41 hours. “I’m looking forward to the duel with Aryna. There are always great matches,” said Swiatek with a view of the semi-final cracker on Thursday.
